Gary Loomis talks about rod breakage

December 21, 2011

Hello Everyone,

Here it is Christmas just a few days away and your thinking it is time for some new gear, maybe replace a rod that had a Bill Dance moment with a ceiling fan, tailgate, or trolling motor.  Here is the skinny on IM6, IM7, and IM8 for the rest of us that don’t know it all except for a need of a “good reel seat”.  I thought this was great information about what to look for while out and about in your favorite tackle haunts on-line, or brick and mortar.

Rod Breakage

Ever since the introduction of the first graphite rod by Fenwick in 1974, myths about this mysterious material have been growing and circulating the globe like wildfire. How many times have you been told that the difference between IM6, IM7 and IM8 is the difference in quality standard, or that the higher the modulus, the more graphite was used to produce the rod? AZTBF Scentsy Fundraiser Going on Now Through January

~ FUNDRAISER ~

We have a fundraiser that started on December 6th and is going on right now into the first week of January.  25% of sales come back to AZTBF to help fund our projects.  So for every $100 we get $25 as a group.

What is it?  Scentsy is a wickless candle so there is no wick cutting, open flame danger, and soot.  There is an absolute plethora of good smelling stuff, but I haven’t found one that will help me catch more fish.  Please follow the link as this is a great gift for Christmas or a thoughtful gift as a house warming item.  Just use the link and all orders are direct ship to your door.

Here is the link for the fundraiser, https://spoiledrottenchicks.scentsy.us/Buy?partyId=64652837 25% of the proceeds go to AZTBF.

Anti-Fishing Groups Bypass Ongoing Lawsuit in Attempt to Ban Lead Fishing Tackle

Sportfishing community calls for the dismissal of unwarranted petition for a national ban on lead fishing tackle

Alexandria, VA – December 6, 2011 – On November 16, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was yet again petitioned by the Center for Biological Diversity and two other anti-fishing groups, requesting that the agency regulate the manufacture and sale of lead fishing tackle of certain sizes and uses under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). If approved, such regulation could result in a de facto ban of lead sinkers, jigs and other popular types of fishing equipment.

This comes on the heels of a similar petition that the EPA dismissed in November 2010. The original petition also sought to ban lead hunting and shooting ammunition, which is exempted from regulation under TSCA. In dismissing the original petition, the EPA indicated that the “petitioners have not demonstrated that the requested rule is necessary to protect against an unreasonable risk of injury to health or the environment, as required by the TSCA.” Read the rest of this entry »

Lake Pleasant Tournament Results

(L-R); Robert Larson (Co-Angler), Tai Au (Co-Angler), John Griffith (Angler),and Jeff Erickson (Angler)

The Arizona Bass Federation held a one day draw format tournament at Lake Pleasant on November 26, 2011 with the prize being paid entry to the EverStart Series tournament scheduled for February 2012 at Lake Havavsu. The tournament was restricted to active Arizona TBF members only and the competition proved to be fierce. Mother Nature contributed some wind gusts up to 40mph and a continuous wind of 10-15mph out of the South East to make things interesting for all of the anglers. Greg Krueger, Jeff Erickson, and Chad Jenkins (President, Treasure, and Sponsor DX) were looking for a way to increase the membership base, timely remittance of dues, and provide a “members only” opportunity. EverStart was and is the answer. The tournament was created to express to our anglers that there is a benefit of being involved with Arizona TBF. All entrants for the tournament were required to have their 2012 dues paid to be eligible. Read the rest of this entry »
